For this expert spotlight, we’re featuring Karyn Hines, our Financial Analyst and spreadsheets aficionado. Karyn has been with the A2E team for 1 year and has worked in finance for over eighteen years—making her an expert in the field. Karyn is an integral part of our team, working diligently to ensure that events and expenses are in line with approved budgets. Collectively, our team shares well over 150 years of experience in the industry, and we were thrilled to welcome Karyn to the team, who brings with her a wealth of knowledge. We sat down with Karyn to get the inside scoop on her experience since teaming up with A2E. Here's what she had to say.
How would you describe what you do?
I can best describe what I do in one word—spreadsheets. I reconcile the events we put on by comparing the actual costs to the budget, as well as taking care of Sunshine Act* compliance reporting and payment tracking.
The Sunshine Act is an act that requires manufacturers to report all payments or transfers of value such as consulting, honoraria, food, gifts, entertainment, travel, education, speaker payments, and other royalties.
What has been your experience working with A2E?
I have never worked for a company quite like A2E. It’s a remote business that functions like an in-person or onsite organization. The owner/president, Mark Khan, is in a class of his own. The appreciation he has for his employees is authentic and second to none. My co-workers are spread out across the country, yet it feels as though we’re in an office setting, seeing each other on a day-to-day basis. They are accessible, responsive, and always willing to help.
It’s very much an “all for one, one for all” mentality with the same goal in mind—get it done right so we can grow this business and serve our clients to the best of our abilities…together
What’s your favorite part about working with A2E?
By far the culture. I will never forget how, during the interview process with Mark, one of the questions he asked me was “is there anything you don’t want to do?” And that question has always stuck with me! His goal is to ensure his employees are happy, doing what they love, and most importantly that they feel valued.
What is one piece of advice you would give to someone
looking to work at A2E?
Run don’t walk! If presented with an opportunity to work with someone like Mark and his incredible team, go for it. I can’t stress enough how impactful it is to work for someone who sincerely appreciates even the smallest things you do. Mark is constantly expressing his gratitude and appreciation for his team and it just makes you want to do the best job for him. Feeling valued in life is so important and when you feel valued on a day-to-day basis in the workplace, It’s a game changer.
